Jana Lynne Sanchez candidate for U. S. Democratic Congressional Dist 6 was invited to be the guest speaker. In the general election taking place November 6, 2018, she will be up against Republican candidate, Ron Wright. Navarro County coordinators, George Proctor Smith and spouse, Marjorie Smith, joined Sachez, as well as her Ellis County Coordinator, Vicki Spaniel.

She graduated with a degree in political science, worked as a political fundraiser in California, managed political campaigns in Alabama, and went into journalism where she wrote about food, travel, and technology for the Baltimore Sun. She also worked as a foreign correspondent in Amsterdam for Reuters. Sanchez also cofounded CitySavvy in 2005, a financial and communications consulting firm, before returning to Texas in 2014.
D\uring her talk, Sanchez discussed her stance on holding to promises for senior citizens concerning retirement, social security, and medical care. She proposed raising the cap on Social Security payments, extending Medicare coverage, and negotiating the price of prescription drugs. She is in support of fully funding the Veteran’s Administration as a public entity and rolling back the tax cuts. There was a question and answer session that took place after her presentation.
Ellis, Navarro and adjacent parts of the surrounding counties are all covered by NARFE Chapter 1191. NARFE membership in is open to both active and retired federal employees as well as their spouses, former federal employees, and former spouses who are eligible for a federal survivor annuity.
