What Were the Biggest October Losses For the Thrift Savings Plan?

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″ el_class=”section section1″][vc_column_text]The stock market, which had been on a high, finally dropped and dropped fast. The month of October 2018 is a testament of the high and quick drop.

The S&P 500 index dropped 6.9 percent in October – the biggest drop from September 2011. The C fund fell 6.84 percent, and the last time that happened was in September 2011 when it dropped 7.03 percent.

The Dow Jones Industrial Index dropped 5.1 percent in October – the biggest drop since January 2016.

What Are October’s TSP Results?

The TSP’s most aggressive stock funds suffered tremendously. The S Fund dropped 10.06 percent while the I Fund saw a decline of 7.94 percent. In 2018, the S Fund has declined 0.30 percent with the I fund suffering from an 8.92 percent. The C fund has a yearly increase of 2.98 percent (for the last 12 months, the fund has a positive 7.32 percent). The S fund’s yearly return has been 3.07 percent.

The G Fund, which is regarded as the most popular, is up 2.38 percent for 2018 with an increase of 2.79 percent for 12 months.
